On April 27, 2011 a major tornado outbreak struck the state of Alabama, killing hundreds. At this time Aaron Ayers, a middle school student felt that there had to be a better way to educate, inform and warn people of such disasters. So, he set out to find a solution to the issue.

On March 2, 2012 a tornado hit Buckhorn High School. Aaron Ayers, a Freshman at the time, can vividly remember the day. No one was seriously injured or killed, but it was surely a wild ride for all the people on campus that day.

Aaron Ayers, soon to be Founder and President of BHS AMS, was accepted to go on grant to a NOAA CAREES Summer Weather Camp in Jackson, MS. Where he learned more about weather and the atmosphere, than he ever had before. This inspired him to go home and do something similar. He enjoyed sharing what he had learned with others and was fascinated to find out that other people shared his interest.

In September Aaron makes plans to start BHS AMS with a new BHS Teacher, Mr. Mark Dunn.

In October a group of students came together to petition the National AMS Committee for the creation of a new Pre-college chapter of the AMS, titled: Buckhorn Chapter of The American Meteorological Society.

BHS AMS is voted on by the AMS Committee and is accepted as a new chapter of the society.

The BHS AMS website is born! We launched our first ever online website in February of 2013 to meet the needs of members current and future.

BHS AMS joins CoCoRaHS. They start collecting and reporting daily precipitation data at Buckhorn High School for use in government, public and private sectors.

The Buckhorn Weather Lab is born! This is a subsection of BHS AMS that produces weather forecasts for Buckhorn High School students and teachers by students, in the form of graphics and in audio podcasts.

BHS AMS hosted the first ever Storm Vehicle Showcase with UAH. UAH SWIRLL brought out all of their storm research vehicles to Buckhorn, to show the students a little about what they use the vehicles in the field for.

BHS AMS has their first Holliday Party. They talked about snow, and winter weather, played snowball rain gauge toss, oh, and they made SNOW!

BHS AMS becomes rebranded to "We View Weather Differently." And they also adopted a new logo design.

BHS AMS covers the February 2014 Snow Storm on social media. When close to 4" fell in the Buckhorn area.

BHS AMS celebrates the end of the year with an outdoor weather celebration. Playing games with water balloons for prizes, and having Chick-Fil-A sandwiches.

BHS AMS receives a new logo that better represents the chapter as a whole.

The Buckhorn Weather Lab starts producing 6 Day Forecasts for Buckhorn.

BHS AMS hosted the NWS Huntsville, AL Fall Storm Spotter Training at Buckhorn.
