About Us

Founded in 2012 the Buckhorn AMS Chapter, aka the Meteorology club, has promoted environmental and atmospheric science learning in high school students though the use of activities and experiments. The chapter seeks to support and connect students that have a passion for Meteorology, as well as encouraging students that are uncertain into pursuing science and math fields. So far, in the chapter’s short history the members have made pet tornadoes, sucked an egg into a bottle with air pressure, made it snow and made a cloud in a bottle. The chapter has also hosted some great events such as: Storm Spotter Training, UAH Storm Vehicle Showcase, and Weather Ready Buckhorn Week. The chapter’s goal is to support and connect students with a passion for Meteorology to resources outside of the classroom. The chapter continues this goal today, by bringing in guest speakers from the field and using online resources.

About Meetings

The chapter tries to meet once a month for snacks, activities and learning. At each meeting the members discuss current weather topics. Sometimes they do experiments or play games as they explore the field of Meteorology. Some meetings are extra special with guest speakers from different parts of the weather world. The whole goal of each meeting is to learn something new and to have fun. So, if you have a passion for Meteorology, or if you find weather fascinating, stop by one of our meetings and check us out; we are sure you will be glad that you did.
